INDEX>ENGINE
A 302W engine was built to be reliable daily driver with intended engine speeds up to 5500 rpm. The focus was to build an efficient package that was reliable and low maintenance. A target for power output should be around 230-240 hp. The aim was to have the power output approaching a standard five litre XR8 Falcon, 112-124 rear wheel kW (EB..EL-AU).

The engine is a 302W with a 30 thou. overbore, i.e. 306 cid. The engine has been crack-tested, line-bored and balanced. It has new ACL pistons, rings, cam bearings, main and big end bearings, Rollmaster double row timing chain and cover and Powerbond harmonic balancer. The Compression Ratio is around 8.8:1.
HEADS
The heads are crack-tested reconditioned standard heads with new hardened valve seats. The rocker covers are new polished alloy Ford Motorsport ones.
MANIFOLD
The intake manifold is an Edelbrock Performer.
It is a dual plane manifold suitable for use from 0-5500 rpm.
CAM
The original cam has had a performance grind.
DISTRIBUTOR AND TIMING
The distributor is an Electronic Accel
51201E Superstock Breakerless Distributor with adjustable vacuum advance. This distributor allows for low maintenance due to there being no need for points and dwell adjustment. It also allows great flexibility when tuning for different fuel octanes and mixtures. The adjustable vacuum advance gives great flexibility to optimise tuning with just a 3/32 Allen key. Adjustable vacuum advance lets you tailor your ignition to the advance you want. The adjustability permit you to run the maximum amount of ignition advance throughout the rpm range, without incurring detonation.
DYNO-GRAPH
The car produced 122kW at the rear wheels on a Dyno Dynamics Dynanometer. It was running a little rich and it was suggested the secondary jets needed to go two sizes smaller with some further small timing adjustment. This would improve fuel economy and power.
