MUSTANG COUPE (1966)

INDEX>EXHAUST

System

The exhaust has custom-made HPC coated TRI-Y extractors with a single 2.5 inch stainless-steel exhaust system with one Genie Turbo Muffler. A single 2.5 inch system on a 300 cubic inch engine is good up to 250 horsepower. The muffler was chosen to meet space and noise considerations. This is a good system to make low down torque on a "daily driver" that should be revved up to around 5500 rpm.

Muffler

A tri-flo (reverse flow or "turbo") muffler takes the exhaust gas on an S-shaped path through the muffler. The exhaust gas travels to one end of the muffler, is turned through 180 degrees and heads back to the first end. There, it is again turned through 180 degrees before it passes to the outlet. Tri-flow mufflers normally have three internal chambers.

The Genie Turbo is a Tri-flow reflection / absorption stainless steel muffler and flows around 252 cfm. Round hole internal tubing with stainless steel absorption material. Welded seams and polished. Dimensions: 36x11x25 Mass: 4.5kg.

Extractor Coating

The purpose of the HPC coating is to protect extractors against rust and corrosion while providing a stain resistant finish that shouldn't discolour like chrome or stainless. It is meant to heavily reduce under bonnet temperatures, improved engine performance, longevity and reduce fuel use.

Exhaust  coating is designed to protect steel against corrosion and thermal fatigue/oxidisation created by cyclical temperatures. Performance should be enhanced by reducing under bonnet temperatures, improved air density, and increasing gas velocity which is achieved by the coating’s heat retention properties.

Applied to the inside and outside of a header,  exhaust coating is meant to eliminates oxide scale, with improved laminar air flow a direct result. Improved performance directly relates to enhanced fuel consumption, and typically increased header life .

Reduced underbonnet and undercarriage temperatures can significantly reduce heat soak in carburettors, fuel lines, master cylinder, steering box, accelerator cable as well as a myriad of other components, hence reduced component degradation for longer life and more reliable running.

HPC HiPerCoat™ offers protection at temperatures of -190C to + 700C.
