INDEX>REAR AXLE AND FINAL DRIVE

The rear 8.8 differential was disassembled and the housing stripped back to bare metal. The housing was etch primed and sprayed in Dulux subframe black.

The axle end that bolts to the tyre was cleaned to bare metal, etch primed the sprayed with Dulux subframe black. The bearing retainer (zinc plated) plus gasket (ord NOS) was fitted to each axle followed by the new axle bearing.

The carrier housing was stripped to bare metal and then delivered to Trans Gears and Diffs (Thomastown) for reconditioning. A new Motive Gears 3:1 crown and pinion was fitted. The reconditioned carrier was fitted into the housing using a Felpro gasket and a smearing of high temperature silicon. Copper washers were fitted on the carrier bolts under torque prevailing lock nuts.

The axles were inserted into the housing and bolted using new torque prevailing lock nuts. The housing was masked up and the centre etch primed then sprayed in Dulux subframe black. A ton of prepwash was used to remove bits of metal (previous crown).
